The Apple Mouth barrel is made of plastic and releases a subtle apple flavor when it comes into contact with saliva. The horse salivates more, which makes it easier to accept the bit. This pony version has 55 mm rings. On a loose-ring snaffle with fixed oval rings, the rings do not rotate freely, so the aids have a more direct action than with a loose-ring bit. This type of bit is generally well accepted because the barrel remains relatively stable in the mouth.

Measure the width from one ring to the other with the barrel taut. ⚠️ A bit that is too narrow pinches the corners of the mouth; one that is too wide moves around in the mouth and knocks against the teeth. Allow approximately half a centimeter of barrel to be visible on each side. ⚠️ Check a plastic barrel regularly: if it is cut or chewed, replace it.
