The full-cheek snaffle has two vertical bars—the cheeks—positioned in front of the rings. They press against the cheeks and thereby reinforce the steering aids, while preventing the bit from being pulled through the mouth. The horse is easy to steer, which makes this bit suitable for young horses. A full-cheek snaffle can be fitted with keepers, which hold it in place and give it a slight leverage effect.

Measure the width from one ring to the other, with the mouthpiece straightened. ⚠️ A bit that is too narrow pinches the corners of the mouth; one that is too wide moves around in the mouth and knocks against the teeth. Allow approximately half a centimetre of mouthpiece to be visible on each side. ⚠️ Regularly check the condition of the plastic: a mouthpiece that is nicked or chewed must be replaced.
