A loose-ring snaffle made of mild steel with a blue patina and a twisted, locked-joint mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ The twisted single joint locks when it bends: under tension, the mouthpiece acts like a straight bar, then becomes single-jointed again as soon as the rider softens the contact. The twist adds edges, resulting in a sharper action.
- ✔ The rings slide freely through the mouthpiece. The rein aid is therefore less direct than with a fixed-ring bit: the bit moves, so the horse cannot lean against a fixed contact point.

🧴 Instructions for use
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it pinches the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards: pinching occurs between the moving ring and the mouthpiece. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ Corrective mouthpiece for horses that lean on the contact or run through it. Not suitable for sensitive horses or inexperienced riders.
