A short combination hackamore bit made of blue-patina mild steel, with a double-jointed French Link mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel that is blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Double-jointed mouthpiece with a figure-eight-shaped central plate that distributes pressure evenly across the tongue. Its finer edges make the action slightly more direct than that of a standard double-jointed mouthpiece, and the plate is angled at 45° so it lies flat on the tongue.
- ✔ Combines a hackamore and a bit: pressure is distributed between the mouth and the nose. The short shanks provide moderate leverage. An adjustment screw is located above the mouthpiece.

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or measure the bit it wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it presses into the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The hackamore acts on the nasal bone: make sure the noseband rests on the bone, not on the nasal cartilage. ⚠️ The blue colour changes to silver-grey or brownish grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
