A Sweet Iron full-cheek snaffle bit with loose-ring guards, a blue-patinated mild steel mouthpiece, and a twisted, locking joint.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
  • ✔ A single twisted joint that locks when it bends: under tension, the mouthpiece acts like a straight bar, then becomes a single-jointed mouthpiece again as soon as the rider softens the contact. The twist adds edges, creating a more incisive action.
  • ✔ Small fixed rings: stable positioning in the mouth and direct action. This format is used as a snaffle on a bridle (12 mm) or as a mouthpiece for a hackamore (12 or 16 mm).

🐎 Why choose this product?

It combines a locking joint with a twist: one of the firmest mouthpieces in the range, intended for horses that run through the rider's hand.

🧴 Instructions for use

⚠️ A bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it presses on the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ Corrective mouthpiece for horses that lean on the bit or run through the contact. Not suitable for sensitive horses or inexperienced riders.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
