A loose-ring gag bit made of blue-patina sweet iron, with a locking lozenge mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is a mild steel that is blued during manufacturing by heating. When it comes into contact with humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
  • ✔ A single-jointed mouthpiece that locks when it bends: under rein tension, the mouthpiece then acts like a straight mouthpiece, which increases its action. As soon as the tension eases, it becomes a single-jointed mouthpiece again.
  • ✔ A loose ring fitted with two small rings for the gag cheekpieces. The bit encourages the horse to raise its head. The pressure points are the poll and the corners of the mouth. It can be used with one or two reins, most often two to regulate the effect.
  • ✔ Corrective mouthpiece, designed for horses that lean on the hand or run through the contact.

🐎 Why choose this product?

It gives you two bits in one: a single-jointed mouthpiece when the hand is light, and a straight mouthpiece as soon as the horse leans on the contact. The horse discovers for itself that it is better not to pull.

🧴 Instructions for use

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The gag cheekpiece replaces the usual bridle cheekpiece. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is the normal behaviour of Sweet Iron, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
