- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Double-jointed design with an elliptical center link. This shape conforms better to the anatomy of the mouth and allows the bit to sit more freely, but it puts slightly more pressure on the center of the tongue than a single-jointed bit.
- ✔ Loose rings with two inner half-rings connected by a vertical bar. The mouthpiece is attached to this bar and pivots up and down, producing a lifting effect. It can be used with one or two reins.

The elliptical center link eliminates the pinching effect of a single joint without the firmness of a flat plate: it is the most forgiving type of double-jointed bit.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brown-gray with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
