The Waterford’s mouthpiece is made up of balls that move in every direction. These articulated balls make it difficult for the horse to lean on the bit and pull against it. The mouthpiece’s flexibility allows it to adapt to many mouths, including those with thick tongues. The mouthpiece is made of Cuprion—a 91% copper, 5% zinc, and 4% silicon alloy—mounted on stainless-steel D-rings. The copper reaches the horse’s body temperature, making the bit easier to accept, while its oxidation releases a pleasant smell and taste.

The Verdun bit has D-rings that do not rotate freely, so the aids have a more direct effect. This type of bit is generally well accepted because the mouthpiece remains relatively stable in the horse’s mouth. The D shape prevents the bit from being pulled through the mouth and allows the horse to be guided effectively, making it suitable for young horses.

🐎 Why choose this product?

⚠️ The supplier presents this bit as particularly suitable for experienced riders: the aids are transmitted sharply. It is described as providing greater control without the horse leaning on the bit or relying on the rider’s hand. The Verdun design already makes the aids more direct, so this is not a training bit for beginners.

🧴 Care instructions

Rinse the bit with clean water after each use. ⚠️ Cuprion tarnishes and turns green as it oxidizes: this is normal, and it should not be removed with an abrasive product. Measure the width from one ring to the other with the mouthpiece straight. ⚠️ A bit that is too narrow pinches the corners of the mouth; one that is too wide moves around in the mouth and knocks against the teeth. Allow approximately half a centimetre of mouthpiece to show on each side.
