Hand-forged Pelham bit, made of brass and nickel silver.

The Pelham combines a snaffle and a curb bit in a single mouthpiece: two pairs of reins, or one pair with roundings. The curb chain is included. It is mainly used for jumping and eventing, on a horse that needs to be brought back onto the bit without moving up to a double bridle. The double-jointed mouthpiece eliminates the nutcracker effect of a single joint: the central link lies on the tongue instead of rising toward the palate. Pressure is distributed across the bars, tongue, and corners of the mouth. The entire KavalBit range is shaped and finished by hand from an alloy of 70% brass and 30% nickel silver. Brass has a taste that horses readily accept and it promotes salivation; the shanks are made of stainless steel, with no free nickel, so there is no risk for sensitive horses. Corrosion resistance is excellent.

🐎 Why choose this product?

Brass and nickel silver have a taste that horses readily accept and that encourages salivation. Add stainless steel shanks with no free nickel and hand-forged construction, and you get a bit that is suitable even for horses sensitive to metals.

🧴 Care instructions

Rinse the bit with clean water after each use and dry it: that is all it requires. Avoid the dishwasher and abrasive products, which can dull the metal. Regularly check the wear on the joints and rings, and replace the bit as soon as any play develops.

Composition

70% brass, 30% nickel silver, stainless steel shanks.
