- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ A single joint. This mouthpiece puts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed one and works mainly on the bars and sides of the tongue. This is the standard mouthpiece.
- ✔ Two D-shaped rings that do not tip forward and backward: greater stability and more direct action. The D shape increases lateral pressure against the cheek, making steering easier.

This is the mouthpiece most horses are familiar with: the one to start with, and the one to return to when you want to determine what comes from the bit and what comes from the rider's hand.
🧴 Instructions for use
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. Choose the thickness according to the mouth: a thick mouthpiece distributes pressure over a larger surface, but takes up too much space in a shallow mouth or with a thick tongue. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
