The Apple Mouth mouthpiece is made of plastic and releases a subtle apple flavor when it comes into contact with saliva. The horse salivates more, which makes it easier for the horse to accept the bit.
This bit has an additional ring at the top and bottom. Attaching the cheekpieces to the top rings and the reins to the middle or bottom ring creates a leverage effect: the lower the reins are attached, the greater the effect.

A flavored bit has no particular mechanical action: it affects acceptance. Combined with a thick mouthpiece, it moderates a setup whose leverage effect nevertheless remains very real. ⚠️ The supplier recommends this bit for horses that are strong in the mouth. A leverage effect multiplies the pressure exerted by the rider's hand: this is not a bit for beginners, and changing bits can never replace fundamental training.
🧴 Usage advice
You choose the rein position at the attachment point: the middle ring for a moderate effect, or the bottom ring for a pronounced effect. Always start with the gentlest position. ⚠️ A leverage bit requires a measured hand and is preferably used with curb straps, which are mandatory in competition when using a Pessoa. Measure the width from one ring to the other, with the mouthpiece pulled straight. ⚠️ A bit that is too narrow pinches the corners of the mouth; one that is too wide moves around in the mouth and knocks against the teeth. Allow approximately half a centimeter of mouthpiece to show on each side. ⚠️ A plastic mouthpiece should be checked regularly: if it is nicked or chewed, replace it.
