✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel blued during manufacture by heating. When it comes into contact with humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Double joint with a figure-eight-shaped central plate that distributes pressure evenly across the tongue. Its thinner edges make the action slightly more incisive than that of a standard double-jointed bit, and the plate is angled at 45° so it lies flat on the tongue.
- ✔ Small fixed rings: stable position in the mouth and direct action. This format is used as a bridoon on a double bridle (12 mm) or as a mouthpiece for a hackamore (12 or 16 mm).

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit sizer, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
