Size Guide — Mattès Saddle Pads
How to choose the right size
The saddle pad size is chosen based on your saddle, not your horse. It takes three steps:
- Turn your saddle over and locate the panels, the two cushions that rest on the horse's back.
- Measure their length, from point A at the front to point B at the rear, along the gullet.
- Add 6 cm: this is the minimum back length for your saddle pad. Choose the size whose back length (A–B in the table) is at least equal to this number.

Measurements by size
All measurements are in centimetres. The three models do not have the same dimensions: All-Purpose, Dressage, and Jumping each follow the corresponding flap cut.

When to choose EWWA Spine-Free®
Spine-Free® is Mattès' standard channel: it clears the spine, the saddle pad sits properly under the saddle, and air can circulate.
EWWA adds a withers cutout, without fleece, and deepens the channel by an additional 4 to 5 cm depending on the size—see the EWWA column in the table. It is made for horses with very prominent withers. On a horse with ordinary withers, it offers no benefit.
