The pelham combines a snaffle and curb bit in a single mouthpiece: two pairs of reins, or one pair with rein converters. The curb chain is included. It is mainly used for jumping and eventing, on a horse that needs to be brought back onto the contact without moving up to a double bridle. The single-jointed mouthpiece acts on the bars and corners of the mouth, with a slight pinching effect on the palate when both reins are used together. It is the most common mouthpiece, one that most horses are already familiar with. The Ergonomic range is shaped to match the anatomy of the mouth: the mouthpiece tapers inward, where space is limited, to distribute pressure more evenly. It is made from sweet iron, a mild steel that develops a slightly sweet taste when it comes into contact with saliva: the horse chews more, salivates more, and accepts the bit more readily. The double-jointed versions also feature a copper insert, making them even more appealing.
