A short combination hackamore bit made of blue-patina mild steel, with a double-jointed French Link mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel that is blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
  • ✔ Double-jointed mouthpiece with a figure-eight-shaped central plate that distributes pressure evenly across the tongue. Its finer edges make the action slightly more direct than that of a standard double-jointed mouthpiece, and the plate is angled at 45° so it lies flat on the tongue.
  • ✔ Combines a hackamore and a bit: pressure is distributed between the mouth and the nose. The short shanks provide moderate leverage. An adjustment screw is located above the mouthpiece.

🐎 Why choose this product?

🧴 Usage advice

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or measure the bit it wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it presses into the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The hackamore acts on the nasal bone: make sure the noseband rests on the bone, not on the nasal cartilage. ⚠️ The blue colour changes to silver-grey or brownish grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
