A loose-ring bridle snaffle bit made of blue-patinated mild steel, with a Waterford ball-link mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
  • ✔ A succession of articulated elliptical links: the mouthpiece follows every contour and provides no fixed point of resistance. Used on strong horses that are heavy in the hand and have difficulty relaxing their jaws.
  • ✔ Small loose rings that slide through the mouthpiece: the action is less direct. This format is used as the snaffle on a bridle (12 mm) or as a mouthpiece for a hackamore (12 or 16 mm).

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: loose-ring bridle snaffle bit
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Mouthpiece: Waterford with ball links
  • Mouthpiece thickness: 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 115 / 125 / 135 / 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

No fixed point of resistance: the strong horse has nothing to lean against. Reserve it for confident hands, as its mobility leaves no room for a moving hand.

🧴 Usage advice

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit-sizing ruler, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards to prevent pinching at the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brownish-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ Very mobile mouthpiece; reserve it for experienced, steady hands.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
