✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel that is blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Double-jointed mouthpiece with a figure-eight-shaped central plate that distributes pressure evenly across the tongue. Its thinner edges make the action slightly sharper than that of a standard double-jointed bit, and the plate is angled at 45° so it rests flat on the tongue.
- ✔ Fixed ring fitted with two small rings for the elevator cheekpieces. The bit encourages the horse to raise its head. Fixed rings transmit the action more directly than a loose-ring elevator bit. The points of contact are the poll and the corners of the mouth.

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The elevator cheekpiece replaces the usual bridle cheekpiece. Two reins allow you to control the effect. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
