Kavalkade Size Guide – Half Chaps

A pair of mini-chaps should be chosen based on two measurements, not one: calf circumference and lower-leg length. That is why Kavalkade offers each size in several calf widths and shaft lengths.

Taking your measurements

  • Calf circumference — wearing riding breeches and, if applicable, your riding socks. Bend your knee as if you were in the saddle, then wrap the tape measure around the widest part of your calf.
  • Lower-leg length — standing with your feet on the floor: place the tape measure on the floor beside your leg and measure up to the crease behind your knee.

These measurements are common to all the brand’s adult models: Remus, Tiberius, Valerius, Combi, Combi Fashion and Combi Sparkle all share the same pattern. However, not every model is available in every size—refer to the product page’s drop-down menu to see which sizes are available.

Two points to note

  • If you are between two calf measurements, choose the larger size: the material gives a little with use, whereas a compressed calf remains uncomfortable from the first hour.
  • Choose height over width if you are unsure: a shaft that is too tall rides up behind the knee and causes discomfort with every stride, whereas a little extra room around the calf can be accommodated when fastening.
