A bit with large loose rings, made of blue-patinated mild steel, with a ball-link Waterford mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a sweet-tasting surface oxidation that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
  • ✔ A series of articulated elliptical links: the mouthpiece adapts to every contour and provides no fixed point of leverage. Used on horses that are heavy in the hand and have difficulty relaxing their jaw.
  • ✔ The rings slide freely through the mouthpiece, and their large diameter provides more leverage than an ordinary ring.

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: large loose-ring bit
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Mouthpiece: ball-link Waterford
  • Mouthpiece thickness: 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 115 / 125 / 135 / 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

No fixed point of leverage: the heavy horse has nothing to lean against. Reserve it for steady hands, as its mobility leaves no room for a moving hand.

🧴 Usage advice

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit-sizing ruler, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards: it is between the mobile ring and the mouthpiece that the corner of the mouth gets pinched. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ Very mobile mouthpiece, reserved for experienced, steady hands.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
