A loose-ring snaffle bit for a bridle, made of blue-patinated mild steel, with a double-jointed mouthpiece featuring an elliptical center link.

✨ Key benefits

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
  • ✔ Double-jointed mouthpiece with an elliptical center link. This shape follows the anatomy of the mouth more closely and allows the bit to sit more freely, but it puts slightly more pressure on the center of the tongue than a single joint.
  • ✔ Small loose rings that slide through the mouthpiece: the action is less direct. This format is used as the snaffle on a bridle (12 mm) or as a mouthpiece for a hackamore (12 or 16 mm).

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: loose-ring bridle snaffle bit
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Mouthpiece: double-jointed with an elliptical center link
  • Mouthpiece thicknesses: 12 mm / 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 115 / 125 / 130 / 135 / 140 / 145 / 150

🐎 Why choose this product?

The elliptical center link eliminates the pinching effect of a single joint without the firmness of a flat plate: it is the most forgiving double-jointed design.

🧴 How to use

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit sizer, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. Choose the thickness according to the mouth: a thick mouthpiece distributes pressure over a larger surface area, but takes up more space in a shallow mouth or with a thick tongue. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards to prevent pinching at the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
