A loose-ring gag bit in blue-patinated sweet iron, with a Cherry Roller barrel.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is a mild steel that is blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to moist air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
  • ✔ Single-jointed barrel fitted with free-rolling rollers on each side. The rollers discourage the horse from grabbing the bit or locking it between its teeth.
  • ✔ Loose ring fitted with two small rings for the gag cheekpieces. The bit encourages the horse to raise its head. The pressure points are the poll and the corners of the mouth. It can be used with one or two reins, most often two to adjust the effect.

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: loose-ring gag bit
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Barrel: Cherry Roller
  • Barrel thickness: 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 115 / 125 / 135 / 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

The rollers occupy the mouth of a horse that tries to lock the bit between its teeth—a habit that ruins all contact.

🧴 Usage advice

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the barrel from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it presses the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The gag cheekpiece replaces the usual bridle cheekpiece. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
