- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ The mouthpiece is fitted with brass rings in the center. It is suitable for horses with “dead” mouths that need stimulation, and increases tongue activity.
- ✔ The rings slide freely through the mouthpiece. The action of the hand therefore reaches the horse less directly than with a fixed-ring bit: the bit moves, so the horse cannot lean against a fixed contact point.

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse’s mouth with a bit gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards: pinching occurs between the moving ring and the mouthpiece. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brownish gray with use, and an orangey film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ On a horse that is already restless in the mouth, this stimulation may produce the opposite effect.
