A loose-ring bit with side pieces, made of blue-patina mild steel, with a locking-joint mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
  • ✔ A single joint that locks as soon as it bends: under rein tension, the mouthpiece then acts like a straight mouthpiece, which strengthens its action. As soon as the tension eases, it becomes a single-jointed mouthpiece again.
  • ✔ Two vertical side pieces on a fixed ring, with two small rings for the loose-ring cheekpieces. The side pieces increase lateral support and make steering easier. The ring is smaller than on an ordinary bit with side pieces, so the leverage is reduced.
  • ✔ Corrective mouthpiece, designed for horses that lean on the hand or run through the contact.

🐎 Why choose this product?

It gives you two bits in one: a single joint when the hand is light, and a straight mouthpiece as soon as the horse leans. The horse discovers for itself that it is better not to pull.

🧴 How to use

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The loose-ring cheekpiece replaces the usual bridle cheekpiece. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
