How to measure your dog

Dog standing, with a flexible tape measure held flat against the body (or use a piece of string measured against a ruler). “Tape snug” means in contact with the coat without compressing it.

• Measurement 1 – Neck circumference: just below the throat, where the harness sits, with the tape snug. Also note the measurement with 3 flat fingers slipped under the tape.
• Measurement 2 – Chest circumference: at the widest part of the rib cage, just behind the front legs, with the tape snug. Also note the measurement with 4 flat fingers slipped under the tape.
• Measurement 3 – Back length: from the withers (base of the neck) to the base of the tail. Measure three times and use the average.
• Measurement 4 – Neck circumference at the base: at the thickest part of the neck, with the tape snug, then with 3 fingers slipped underneath (useful for custom-made items).
• Measurement 5 – Belly circumference: at the narrowest point, just in front of the groin, with the tape snug, then with 3 fingers slipped underneath (useful for custom-made items).

To choose a size from the chart, measurements 1, 2, and 3 taken with the tape snug are sufficient. If your dog falls between two sizes or is outside the standard range, send us all five measurements along with the breed, age, and weight: the manufacturer also makes custom harnesses. If in doubt, include a side-view photo of the dog.
