The Waterford mouthpiece is made up of balls that move in all directions. These articulated balls make it difficult for the horse to lean on the bit and pull against it. The mouthpiece’s flexibility allows it to adapt to many mouths, including those with thick tongues.
The mouthpiece is made of Cuprion — an alloy of 91% copper, 5% zinc, and 4% silicon — and the guards are made of stainless steel. Copper reaches the horse’s body temperature, which makes acceptance easier, and its oxidation releases a pleasant smell and taste.
