A blue-patinated Sweet Iron Curbgag bit with a curved mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
  • ✔ One-piece, curved mouthpiece without a joint.
  • ✔ A combination of a Pelham and a loose-ring gag: a loose ring with two holes on each side, through which a leather strap passes. The points of pressure are the chin and poll. It can be used with one or two reins.

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: Curbgag bit
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Mouthpiece: curved
  • Mouthpiece thickness: 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

A one-piece mouthpiece whose curve leaves room for the center of the tongue.

🧴 Usage advice

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it presses the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Combined leverage and curb-chain action: for experienced riders only. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brown-gray with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is harmless.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
