A three-ring (Pessoa) bit made of blue-patinated mild steel, with a locking-joint mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
  • ✔ A single-joint mouthpiece that locks as soon as it bends: under rein tension, the mouthpiece then acts like a straight bar, which increases its action. As soon as the tension is released, it becomes a single-joint mouthpiece again.
  • ✔ Leverage shank: the lower the rein is attached, the stronger the action. The point of contact is on the poll, just behind the ears.
  • ✔ Corrective mouthpiece, designed for horses that lean on the hand or run through the contact.

🐎 Why choose this product?

It provides two bits in one: a single-joint mouthpiece when the hand is light, and a straight bar as soon as the horse leans. The horse discovers for itself that it is better not to pull.

🧴 Usage advice

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The three-ring bit magnifies the action of the hand. Start with the highest ring. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brownish-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron operation, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
