A loose-ring pony bit made of blue-patinated mild steel, with a double-jointed mouthpiece and elliptical link.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Double-jointed with an elliptical central link. This shape better follows the anatomy of the mouth and allows the bit to sit more freely, but it applies slightly more pressure to the center of the tongue than a single joint.
- ✔ The rings slide freely through the mouthpiece. The dimensions are reduced for small mouths.

🐎 Why choose this product?
The elliptical link eliminates the pinching effect of a single joint without the firmness of a flat plate: it is the most forgiving type of double joint.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or measure the bit it currently wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards: the corner of the mouth is pinched between the movable ring and the mouthpiece. ⚠️ The blue colour changes to silvery grey or brownish grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is the normal behaviour of Sweet Iron, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
