A loose-ring snaffle made of mild steel with a blue patina and a twisted, locked-joint mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
  • ✔ The twisted single joint locks when it bends: under tension, the mouthpiece acts like a straight bar, then becomes single-jointed again as soon as the rider softens the contact. The twist adds edges, resulting in a sharper action.
  • ✔ The rings slide freely through the mouthpiece. The rein aid is therefore less direct than with a fixed-ring bit: the bit moves, so the horse cannot lean against a fixed contact point.

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: loose-ring snaffle
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Mouthpiece: twisted, locked joint
  • Mouthpiece thickness: 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 115 / 125 / 135 / 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

It combines a locking joint with a twist: one of the firmest mouthpieces in the range, intended for horses that run through the contact.

🧴 Instructions for use

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it pinches the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards: pinching occurs between the moving ring and the mouthpiece. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ Corrective mouthpiece for horses that lean on the contact or run through it. Not suitable for sensitive horses or inexperienced riders.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
