An eggbutt bridle snaffle made of blue-patina mild steel, with a Wideport Segundo mouthpiece featuring tongue relief.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Double-jointed with a wide tongue relief. Unlike other double-jointed bits, it reduces pressure on the tongue rather than increasing it.
- ✔ Small fixed rings: stable position in the mouth and direct action. This format can be used as a snaffle on a bridle (12 mm) or as a mouthpiece for a hackamore (12 or 16 mm).
- ✔ Used for horses that do not tolerate pressure on the tongue.

The only double-jointed bit that reduces pressure on the tongue rather than increasing it: the answer for horses that resist tongue pressure.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
