A bit with large loose rings made of blue-patinated mild steel, with a double-jointed French Link mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel that is blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
  • ✔ Double-jointed with a figure-eight-shaped central plate that distributes pressure evenly across the tongue. Its thinner edges make the action slightly more incisive than that of an ordinary double-jointed bit, and the plate is angled at 45° so it rests flat on the tongue.
  • ✔ The rings slide freely through the mouthpiece, and their large diameter provides more leverage than an ordinary ring.

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: large loose-ring bit
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Mouthpiece: double-jointed French Link
  • Mouthpiece thickness: 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 115 / 125 / 135 / 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

The figure-eight plate distributes pressure evenly across the tongue: this is the standard double-jointed design, the one to try when a single joint causes discomfort.

🧴 Use and care advice

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards: it is between the moving ring and the mouthpiece that the corner of the mouth gets pinched. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
