A short combination hackamore bit made of blue-finished Sweet Iron, with a single-jointed mouthpiece.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is a mild steel that is blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Single joint. This mouthpiece puts less pressure on the tongue than a double joint and works mainly on the bars and sides of the tongue. It is the standard mouthpiece.
- ✔ Combines a hackamore and a bit: pressure is distributed between the mouth and the nose. The short shanks provide moderate leverage. An adjustment screw is located above the mouthpiece.

This is the mouthpiece most horses are familiar with: the one to start with, and the one to return to when you want to determine what comes from the bit and what comes from the rider's hand.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The hackamore acts on the nose bridge: make sure the noseband rests on the bone and not on the cartilage of the nostrils. ⚠️ The blue colour fades to silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
