Important safety measures
When using electrical devices, you must always observe certain basic safety measures, including the following.
Work area
- Only clip animals if unauthorized persons do not have access to the clipping area.
- Only clip in a well-ventilated area (due to dust), and never near objects or gases that could explode.
Electrical safety
- Connect the device exclusively to alternating current (AC). Take the rated voltage into account.
- Position the cable so that no one can step on or trip over it, and so that it cannot be damaged or subjected to strain. Never wrap the cable around the device and keep it away from hot surfaces and objects: this can cause breaks and damage the cable insulation. Regularly check that the cable is not damaged.
- It is recommended to connect the device to an electrical circuit equipped with a circuit breaker.
Personal safety
- Wear appropriate work clothing. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewelry, as they may get caught in the device.
- The user of the device must be competent in clipping animals.
- The noise from the device can make animals nervous. A kick or being crushed under the animal's weight can cause serious injuries. Securely restrain the animal, approach it from the front, and only start the device when it is within the animal's field of vision.
Use and maintenance of the clipper
- Avoid any contact with the moving blades.
- As long as the device is connected to the power supply, you must not touch the blade area, even when the machine is switched off. Make sure the device is unplugged before removing or installing the blades or the cutting head.
- Avoid any contact between the machine and liquid of any kind.
- Do not clip animals with wet coats. If liquid enters the machine, it is no longer insulated, which may result in an electric shock or short circuit. Clean the machine body only when dry, using a brush.
- Use only blades designed for this kit. Blunt blades or blades with broken teeth must not be used.
- Before clipping, check that the animal’s coat does not contain foreign bodies (sawdust, fluff, etc.).
- Never insert any object into the machine’s openings.
- Clipping other animals, especially dangerous animals such as predators, is considered improper use and may lead to life-threatening situations or situations endangering physical integrity.
- This machine is not suitable for children or physically weak persons. Children must not use the machine.
Blade tension
The blade tension is adjusted using the adjustment screw: a round, notched knob located on top of the clipper head (Image 1 in the instructions).
Before using the machine:
- Disconnect the machine from the power source.
- Check that the moving blade and the fixed blade are installed correctly.
- Tighten the adjustment screw until you feel initial resistance.
Finding the right tension
When the adjustment screw is tightened too much, the pressure on the blades is too high: they heat up and wear quickly, and the clipper makes a lot of noise. In this case, slowly loosen the screw until the noise returns to normal and clipping is satisfactory. As you loosen it, feel how the pressure changes and choose the appropriate tension for your needs.
Oiling
Oil before and during clipping.
- Put a few drops of oil on the moving blade and the fixed blade (Image 2 in the instructions: drops on the blade teeth). This is very important for clipping quality and the machine’s service life.
- The other moving parts of the clipper head must also be oiled: pour a little oil into the lubrication holes on top of the clipper head (Image 2).
Use only special oil or paraffin oil compliant with ISO-VG15: it is non-toxic and has no harmful side effects on the skin or mucous membranes. This paraffin oil degrades: after 21 days, it retains only about 20% of its effectiveness.
The oil affects not only the clipping result but also the service life of the blades: a blade that is not sufficiently oiled becomes too hot during operation, which shortens its service life. Therefore, oil the blades and cutting head sufficiently during use: once every five minutes.
Switching on and off
The clipper body’s sliding switch has two positions (Figure 3):
- Position 1: the machine is switched on.
- Position 0: the machine is switched off.
Fitting the blades
A blade set consists of a lower blade (A) and an upper blade (B). The diagrams in the instructions also identify the adjustment screw (C), the two blade fixing screws (D) and the two lugs of the drive mechanism (E). When fitting the blades, make sure the correct surfaces of the blades are resting against each other.
- Loosen the adjustment screw (C) and place the machine on a hard surface, with the blade fixing screws (D) facing upward.
- Loosen the two fixing screws and remove the two old blades.
- Place the new upper blade (B) on the cutting head, fitting the two lugs of the drive mechanism (E) into the holes in the blade. Apply a few drops of oil to the sharpened edge.
- Slide the new lower blade (A) between the loosened fixing screws.
- Adjust the blades in relation to each other: the sharpened edge of the lower blade should extend approximately 1.5 to 2.0 mm beyond the tips of the upper blade’s teeth (Figure 6 in the instructions).
- Once the blades are correctly positioned, retighten the fixing screws (D).
- Then tighten the adjustment screw until the cutting surface of the moving blade touches that of the fixed blade and you feel some resistance.
Maintenance and storage
Clean
- After clipping, wipe the oil off the blades with a dry cloth.
- Gently clean the cutting head and blade with a dry brush.
- Then apply oil to prevent corrosion.
Even a tiny spot of rust on the blade can seriously affect the shearing result, or even render the blade ineffective: take great care to prevent rust.
Sharpening the blades
Only use properly sharpened blades. Replace blades that are blunt or have lost teeth. Sharpening must be done with a special clipper blade sharpener, operated only by technicians who have received specific training.
Replace the cutting head (spare part)
- Unscrew the two screws on the cutting head.
- Remove the old head and install the new one, remembering to oil it.
- Tighten the screws.
Storing the machine
- Keep the machine in its packaging in a cool, dry place.
- At the slightest suspicion that liquid has entered the machine, do not use it, as this could result in an electric shock: contact us to have it inspected.
- When not in use, store it properly: clean and oil it, loosen the adjustment screw slightly to release the tension, then store it in its case in a dry, well-ventilated place, out of the reach of children.
Troubleshooting
If the problem you encountered is not listed in this table, contact us.
| Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| The moving blade does not move. | Drive mechanism (gear) fault. | Replace the mechanism. |
| The blade cannot be tensioned. | Damaged tension spring. | Replace the tension spring. |
| The clippers lack cutting power. | Blunt moving and fixed blades. | Have the blades sharpened. |
| Insufficient tension on the blades. | Increase the tension by tightening the adjustment screw. | |
| The cutting head is too hot. | Excessive tension on the blades. | Reduce the tension and have the blades sharpened if necessary. |
| No oil on the blades. | Add oil. | |
| No oil on the drive mechanism (E). | Pour oil into the lubrication holes in the cutting head. | |
| The motor is not working. | The machine is not receiving power. | Check the electrical connection. |
| Damaged power cable. | Contact us: the machine must be inspected and the cable replaced. | |
| Damaged switch and motor. | Contact us for repair. | |
| The motor is too hot. | Clogged air filter: air does not circulate freely. | Clean the filter grille with a brush. |
| Excessive tension on the blades. | Do not overtighten the adjustment screw. If operation is still not normal, have the blades sharpened or replaced. |
