Controls and displays
The transmitter (Instructor) and receiver (Rider) have the same casing and the same controls.
| Item | Transmitter (Instructor) | Receiver (Rider) |
|---|---|---|
| Charging point (bottom of the device) | Yes | Yes |
| On/Off switch | Yes | Yes |
| LOCK button (lock/unlock) | Yes | Yes |
| SET button (setting) | Yes | Yes |
| − and + buttons | Yes | Yes |
| Socket on top of the device | Microphone | Earphone |
| Screen: lock status, battery status, power | Yes | Yes |
| Screen: device-specific setting | Microphone gain | Noise reduction (squelch) |
| Screen: channel | Yes | Yes |
How to use
- On/Off: switch up = on (On), switch down = off (Off). When switched on, the keypad is locked. Place the microphone at chest height, not closer to the mouth.
-
Unlock / lock: hold LOCK for 5 seconds until the padlock symbol disappears from the screen. The device is locked when the padlock is displayed.
If no button is used for 10 seconds after unlocking, the keypad automatically locks again and the selected setting is saved.
- Select the channel (number on the right of the screen): once the device is unlocked, press − or +; the screen displays a channel from 1 to 13. The transmitter and receiver must be on the same channel.
- Transmitter (Instructor) — microphone gain (number on the left of the screen): once the device is unlocked, press SET to choose the gain according to the sound source. With the microphone, choose between 1 and 3; 3 transmits the loudest sound and is generally the most suitable.
- Receiver (Rider) — volume: when the receiver is on and locked, adjust the volume with − (down to 0) and + (up to 15). The volume is displayed on the right of the screen; 12 is the recommended setting.
-
Receiver (Rider) — noise reduction (squelch): when the receiver is on and unlocked, press SET to choose a level from 0 to 9. Generally, 3 or 4 works well.
- 0: the receiver receives continuously, even with a lot of interference or right at the edge of the range — but you will hear more noise.
- 9: the slightest noise or interference cuts off the receiver.
If two transmitters operate on the same channel in the same location, this function automatically cuts off the receivers. Select another channel.
Charge the device
- Use only the original charger.
- Connect the charger to the charging port at the bottom of the device.
- During charging, a red indicator light is lit at the top of the screen.
- When the battery is full (after 3 to 4 hours), the red indicator light turns off.
- The battery icon on the screen indicates the charge level with 3 bars, on both the transmitter and receiver.
Battery life: approximately 14 hours. It is best to recharge when only one bar remains on the battery icon. Complete discharge damages the battery.
Interference
If two transmitters are used very close to each other, adjacent channels may cause interference, regardless of the brand of the devices. In this case, do not use two consecutive channels: instead of channels 1 and 2, for example, use channels 1 and 5.
Safety instructions
- Damage resulting from improper use is not covered.
- Keep the device out of the reach of children.
- Avoid heating above 70 °C; do not expose it to sunlight or fire for long periods.
- Do not expose it to moisture or water.
- Avoid short circuits.
- Do not damage or disassemble.
- Do not use the device if the battery is defective.
- Use only original parts.
- Turn off the transmitter and receiver after use.
- Use only the original charger and unplug it from the socket after charging.
- If the set is not used for a long period, recharge the battery approximately every 3 months.
- Recharge the battery at an ambient temperature between 10 °C and 40 °C.
- Take the device or used parts to a designated collection center, or return them to your retailer.
Care and maintenance
- Before cleaning, make sure that the devices are switched off and disconnected from the charger.
- Clean only with a soft, dry cloth.
- Do not unnecessarily disconnect the microphone from the transmitter or the earpiece from the receiver: this reduces the risk of breaking the wires and wearing out the sockets.
- Do not fully discharge the lithium-ion battery: this may damage it.
- If you do not use the set for a long period, store the batteries half-charged.
Possible problems
| Problem | Possible cause | Possible solution |
|---|---|---|
| The screen does not turn on | Battery empty | Turn off the device and fully recharge the battery |
| No reception | The transmitter and receiver are not on the same channel | Set both devices to the same channel (number to the right of the screen) |
| The receiver is out of range | Reduce the distance between the transmitter and receiver | |
| Microphone and earphone reversed, or wires broken | Connect the microphone to the transmitter and the earphone to the receiver; try another microphone or earphone | |
| Distorted or noisy sound | Transmitter gain too high | Lower the gain (2 or 3) |
| Receiver noise reduction (squelch) too low | Set noise reduction to 4 or 5 | |
| Instructor’s microphone too close to the mouth | Place the microphone at chest height | |
| Battery life has decreased significantly | Battery aged or damaged | Replace the battery |
| Momentary loss of sound | Distance from the transmitter is too great | Move closer to the transmitter |
| Interference from another transmitter | Choose another channel | |
| Interference from another source | Choose another channel | |
| No sound or low sound | Volume changed | Check the receiver volume |
Warranty
WHIS offers a 2-year consumer warranty, starting on the day a new and unused product is purchased by the first buyer. Keep your proof of purchase as proof of warranty.
The warranty applies through the repair or replacement of parts; replaced parts become the property of WHIS. The equipment must be used with care and caution.
The following are excluded from the warranty:
- broken wires;
- water damage;
- battery life: it is normal for the capacity of a lithium battery to decrease over the years (as with a mobile phone), depending on how frequently and how the device is used. WHIS may replace the battery at a reduced price;
- defects caused by improper use (incorrect voltage or connection, handling error) or mechanical damage — proper use is that described in this manual;
- damage caused by wear and pulling;
- damage caused by modifications made by a third party;
- damage caused by rough use.
The warranty ends if the device is opened or repaired by anyone not authorised by WHIS. The statutory warranty of the country of purchase applies.
Environment
At the end of its service life, the device must be collected separately and not disposed of with household waste: take it to a recycling point for electrical and electronic equipment. Used or damaged batteries must be taken to a collection point for small chemical waste or batteries.
Never dispose of batteries with household waste.
