Regulations measure the spur from the boot, not the neck alone: the second column is therefore the one that matters. Permitted lengths and rowels depend on the discipline, the level of the competition, the federation, and the country, and they change from one season to the next. Before entering, check the regulations in force for your competition.
The ball-shaped neck end distributes contact over a rounded surface: this is one of the gentlest spurs in the range, often chosen for a sensitive horse or a rider beginning to use spurs.
