A long combined hackamore bit made of blue-patinated mild steel, with a double-jointed mouthpiece featuring an elliptical link.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ Double-jointed with a central link in an elliptical shape. This shape better follows the anatomy of the mouth and allows the bit to sit more freely, but it applies slightly more pressure to the center of the tongue than a single joint.
- ✔ A combination of a hackamore and a bit: pressure is distributed between the mouth, nose, and jaw. The long shanks increase leverage, and therefore intensity.

The elliptical link eliminates the pinching effect of a single joint without imposing the firmness of a flat plate: this is the most forgiving type of double-jointed bit.
🧴 How to use
⚠️ A bit’s size is given in millimeters: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse’s mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Significant leverage: reserved for experienced riders. Check that the noseband rests on the bone and not on the cartilage of the nostrils. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brown-gray with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is the normal functioning of Sweet Iron, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
