- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Double-jointed mouthpiece with an elliptical central link. This shape better follows the anatomy of the mouth, allowing the bit to sit more freely, but it applies slightly more pressure to the center of the tongue than a single-jointed mouthpiece.
- ✔ Similar to a Pelham, but with more direct action. It can be used with one or two reins: the lower the rein is attached, the greater the leverage. It can also be used as a driving bit.

The elliptical link eliminates the pinching effect of a single-jointed mouthpiece without imposing the firmness of a flat plate: it is the most forgiving type of double-jointed mouthpiece.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ A curb chain is essential. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brown-gray with use, and an orange-colored film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
