- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blue-treated during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ A single joint. This mouthpiece puts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed one and works mainly on the bars and sides of the tongue. It is the standard mouthpiece.

This is the mouthpiece most horses are familiar with: the one you start with, and return to when you want to determine what comes from the bit and what comes from the hand.
🧴 Advice for use
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. Choose the thickness according to the mouth: a thick mouthpiece distributes pressure over a larger surface, but takes up too much space in a shallow mouth or one with a thick tongue. ⚠️ With a single rein, a connector strap is required between the large ring and the lower ring. A curb chain is essential. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
