A Swales bit made of blue-patinated sweet iron, with a straight mouthpiece and low tongue port.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to moist air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Straight mouthpiece with a low tongue port. It leaves a little more room for the tongue and distributes pressure properly across the bars.
- ✔ A cross between a bridle and a Pelham: it provides the effect of a bridle without its complexity. It is preferably used with two reins, with the bridle cheekpiece and one of the two reins attached to the large free ring to create the effect of a snaffle.

🧴 Care and use advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ A curb chain is essential. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brown-gray with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
