A full-cheek snaffle made of blue-patinated mild steel, with a barrel featuring brass rings.
✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Barrel fitted with brass rings at its center. It is suitable for horses with a “dead” mouth that need stimulation, and increases tongue activity.
- ✔ Two vertical cheeks attached to a fixed ring. These cheeks press against the side of the horse’s cheek and significantly improve steering. The ring is smaller than that of a D-ring bit, so the leverage effect is lower.

🐎 Why choose this product?
The brass reawakens a mouth that no longer salivates or shows activity: this is a bit for getting things moving again, not an everyday bit.
🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the barrel from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse’s mouth with a bit measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it currently wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it pinches the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The upper cheeks are attached to the bridle with keepers to prevent them from tipping forward. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ On a horse that is already restless in the mouth, this stimulation may produce the opposite effect.
