An eggbutt bit in blue-patinated mild steel, with a mouthpiece featuring brass rings.
✨ Highlights
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to moist air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
- ✔ The mouthpiece is fitted with brass rings at its center. It is suitable for horses with a “dead” mouth that need stimulation, and increases tongue activity.
- ✔ The rings do not slide: the bit stays in a stable position in the mouth and the rein aid is transmitted more directly. The eggbutt sides do not pinch the lips, so bit guards are unnecessary.

🐎 Why choose this product?
The brass stimulates a mouth that has stopped salivating and is no longer active: this is a mouthpiece for getting things moving again, not an everyday mouthpiece.
🧴 Directions for use
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful. ⚠️ On a horse that is already restless in the mouth, this stimulation may produce the opposite effect.
