- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacture by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a sweet-tasting surface oxidation that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Double-jointed with a flat central plate. When the bit tilts, pressure is distributed between the center and the sides of the tongue.
- ✔ The rings do not slide: the bit stays in a stable position in the mouth, and the rein aid is transmitted more directly. The eggbutt cheeks do not pinch the lips, so bit guards are unnecessary.
- ✔ More incisive mouthpiece than a standard double-jointed bit: the plate acts edge-on against the tongue.

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit gauge, or measure the bit it currently wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
