A loose-ring snaffle made of Sweet Iron with a blue patina and a French Link double-jointed mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
  • ✔ Double-jointed mouthpiece with a figure-eight-shaped center plate that distributes pressure evenly across the tongue. Its finer edges make the action slightly more incisive than that of a standard double-jointed mouthpiece, and the plate is angled at 45° so it lies flat on the tongue.
  • ✔ The rings do not slide: the bit stays in a stable position in the mouth and the action of the hand is transmitted more directly. The loose rings do not pinch the lips, so bit guards are unnecessary.

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: loose-ring snaffle
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Mouthpiece: French Link double-jointed
  • Mouthpiece thickness: 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 115 / 125 / 135 / 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

The figure-eight plate distributes pressure evenly across the tongue: this is the standard double-jointed design to try when a single joint causes discomfort.

🧴 Usage advice

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: if it is too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if it is too narrow, it squeezes the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The blue color turns silver-gray or brown-gray with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
