The running side rein works through a triangle: the cords start at the breastplate, run up through the throatlatch rollers, pass through the bit rings, and descend to attach to the D-rings on the breastplate. A horse that stretches its neck upward encounters an elastic limit; one that reaches forward and down finds an immediate reward.

Soft leather, gentle nylon cords, an adjustable girth loop, and three D-rings—one at the end and two on the breastplate—to adjust the angle of the triangle.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ The horse stretches instead of hollowing its back: the triangle limits excessive elevation of the neck
  • ✔ Fine adjustment possible: adjustable girth loop and three D-rings
  • ✔ Rollers integrated into the headpiece: the cords slide instead of rubbing
  • ✔ Soft nylon cords that do not mark the poll
  • ✔ Leather and fittings designed for regular use in the arena

  • Material: leather
  • Cords: soft nylon
  • Headpiece with rollers

  • Three D-rings: one at the end and two on the breastplate

🐎 Why choose this product?

The running side rein has an advantage over draw reins: it does not pull backward. It provides an upper limit while allowing the horse to lower its head freely. That is why we recommend it for lunging and bringing hollow-backed horses back into work, rather than for imposing a specific frame.

🧴 Instructions for use

⚠️ Always adjust it too loosely before making it too short: a tight running side rein traps the horse and produces the opposite of the intended effect. Start at the walk for a few minutes, and never use the running side rein under command without experience with this training aid. Check the rollers regularly: a jammed roller turns sliding into rubbing. Condition the leather with saddle soap.

Composition: leather, nylon, metal.
