Short-Girth Crescent Shape
Does your horse have a short girth groove, rounded ribs, and a girth that always slips forward? The crescent-shaped cut of this Mattès girth frees the elbow area and keeps the girth in place. Removable genuine sheepskin cover, black cotton, black sheepskin: the comfort of a custom-made girth, with less maintenance.
Mattès designed this short girth for horses that are injured or bothered by classic girths: narrow chests, prominent ribs just behind the elbows, short backs - a common conformation in Arabian mares and compact horses. The half-moon cut positions the girth farther back and follows the thoracic and abdominal curves instead of working against them. A second cut-out frees the elbow's movement with every stride. Underneath, the sheepskin cover cushions and allows the skin to breathe; on top, the Poly-Flex padding with plastic insert distributes pressure instead of concentrating it along a ridge. The cover can be removed on its own for washing and drying: the girth remains available, and you can coordinate it with the rest of your equipment.

🐎 Why choose this girth?
A girth that slips forward is not a minor detail: it means a saddle that moves and a horse that tenses up. For conformations without a well-defined girth groove, the Mattès half-moon shape is one of the few genuinely anatomical solutions - and the genuine sheepskin does the rest. Made in Germany by Mattès, the benchmark for sheepskin in saddlery.
🧴 Care instructions
- Allow the sheepskin to dry, then brush it to restore its loft.
- Wash the cover with special MELP detergent, which preserves the wool's lanolin.
- Never dry it near a heat source.
