A neck cover protects the area left exposed by the sheet: the neck and head opening, where rain gets in first. A waterproof sheet is not a cold-weather blanket: without filling, it keeps out rain and wind but does not provide warmth. That is what an unclipped horse living outdoors needs—the horse keeps its coat for warmth, while the sheet keeps it from getting soaked. ⚠️ For a clipped horse or in very cold weather, filling is needed.
🧴 Care instructions
Brush the sheet while it is dry rather than washing it too often: each wash damages the waterproof coating. ⚠️ Do not use fabric softener, as it clogs the breathable membrane. After a few seasons, a re-waterproofing product for technical textiles can restore its water-repellent finish. ⚠️ The stated size is the back length: measure your horse from the withers to the base of the tail, along the spine. A sheet that is too short pulls on the shoulders and can injure the withers; one that is too long shifts around and may cause the horse to catch its feet in it.
