✨ Key features
- ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Double-jointed with a flat central plate. When the bit rotates, pressure is distributed between the center and the sides of the tongue.
- ✔ Two vertical cheeks on a fixed ring. These cheeks apply pressure to the side of the cheek and make steering significantly easier. The ring is smaller than that of a D-ring bit, so the leverage effect is reduced.
- ✔ More incisive mouthpiece than a standard double-jointed bit: the plate acts edge-on against the tongue.

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: this is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or measure the bit it currently wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The upper cheeks are attached to the bridle with keepers to prevent them from tipping forward. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orangey film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
