A loose-ring bit made of mild steel with a blue patina, featuring a Dr. Bristol double-jointed mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit better.
  • ✔ Double-jointed with a flat central plate. When the bit rotates, pressure is distributed between the center and the sides of the tongue.
  • ✔ The rings slide freely along the mouthpiece. The action of the hand is therefore less direct than with a fixed-ring bit: the bit moves, so the horse cannot lean against a fixed point of contact.
  • ✔ More incisive mouthpiece than a classic double-jointed bit: the plate acts edge-on against the tongue.

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: loose-ring bit
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Mouthpiece: Dr. Bristol double-jointed
  • Mouthpiece thickness: 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 115 / 125 / 135 / 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

Use with full awareness: its plate acts edge-on, making this mouthpiece more incisive than it appears.

🧴 Usage advice

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimeters: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or measure the bit it currently wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards: it is between the movable ring and the mouthpiece that the corner of the mouth gets pinched. ⚠️ The blue color changes to silvery gray or brownish gray with use, and an orange-colored film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behavior, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
