A bit with large loose rings made of blue-patinated mild steel, featuring a Cherry Roller barrel.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is mild steel, blued during manufacturing by heating. When exposed to humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
  • ✔ Single-jointed barrel fitted with loose rollers on each side. The rollers discourage the horse from grabbing the bit or locking it between its teeth.
  • ✔ The rings slide freely through the barrel, and their large diameter provides more leverage than an ordinary ring.

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: bit with large loose rings
  • Material: Sweet Iron
  • Barrel: Cherry Roller
  • Barrel thickness: 16 mm
  • Sizes (mm): 115 / 125 / 135 / 145

🐎 Why choose this product?

The rollers occupy the mouth of a horse that tries to lock its bit between its teeth—a fault that ruins all contact.

🧴 Directions for use

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the barrel from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a measuring gauge, or use the measurement of the bit it wears: too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; too narrow, it tightens the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ Fit rubber bit guards: it is between the movable ring and the barrel that the corner of the mouth gets pinched. ⚠️ The blue colour changes to silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orangey film appears when the bit is left unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
