- ✔ Sweet Iron is a mild steel that is blued during manufacturing by heating. In contact with humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
- ✔ Double-jointed with a flat central plate. When the bit tilts, pressure is distributed between the center and the sides of the tongue.
- ✔ A milder version of the three-ring (Pessoa): leverage is present, and is more pronounced the lower the rein is attached. Because the rings are fixed, the bit moves less in the mouth than a 2.5-ring bit with loose rings.
- ✔ More incisive mouthpiece than a conventional double-jointed bit: the plate acts edge-on against the tongue.

🧴 Usage advice
⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or measure the bit it currently wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it presses the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The leverage acts on the poll: use it with a light hand and check the cheekpiece adjustment. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.
