A 2.5-ring eggbutt bit in blue-patinated sweet iron, with a Dr. Bristol double-jointed mouthpiece.

✨ Key features

  • ✔ Sweet Iron is a mild steel that is blued during manufacturing by heating. In contact with humid air and saliva, it develops a surface oxidation with a sweet taste that naturally stimulates salivation: the horse chews more and accepts the bit more readily.
  • ✔ Double-jointed with a flat central plate. When the bit tilts, pressure is distributed between the center and the sides of the tongue.
  • ✔ A milder version of the three-ring (Pessoa): leverage is present, and is more pronounced the lower the rein is attached. Because the rings are fixed, the bit moves less in the mouth than a 2.5-ring bit with loose rings.
  • ✔ More incisive mouthpiece than a conventional double-jointed bit: the plate acts edge-on against the tongue.

📋 Technical specifications

🐎 Why choose this product?

Use with full awareness: its plate acts edge-on, making the mouthpiece more incisive than it appears.

🧴 Usage advice

⚠️ Bit size is given in millimetres: it is the width of the mouthpiece from one ring to the other. A 125 measures 12.5 cm. Measure your horse's mouth with a bit ruler, or measure the bit it currently wears: if too wide, the bit moves around and pinches; if too narrow, it presses the corners of the mouth. ⚠️ The leverage acts on the poll: use it with a light hand and check the cheekpiece adjustment. ⚠️ The blue colour turns silver-grey or brown-grey with use, and an orange film appears when the bit remains unused: this is normal Sweet Iron behaviour, not a defect. A wipe with a damp cloth is enough to remove it. This oxidation is not harmful.

About TRUST Equestrian ...

TRUST Equestrian is a Dutch brand specializing in bits and leatherwork. Its bits are designed, developed, and manufactured in the Netherlands, where a team of technicians assembles them by hand. Production of Sweet Iron mouthpieces began more than fifteen years ago, followed by Leather and then Inno Sense mouthpieces. The range now includes three materials, twenty-two mouthpieces, and thirty-four types of shanks, totaling more than two thousand different bits. TRUST bits are anatomically shaped: slightly curved, they follow the shape of the horse’s mouth. The leather collection is made from European full-grain leather, and each model takes the anatomy of the modern horse into account.
